Given that there are so many suppliers in the UK to choose from, it is useful to have a systematic method of assessing them rather than depending on instinct or just picking the one that comes up highest in a search. The following is a practical checklist which you can use with regard to any supplier before placing an order.
1. Testing for Purity on a Separate Basis
Is a certificate of analysis provided by a laboratory that is independent of the manufacturer? That point is the basis on which all the rest depends.
What should be examined: HPLC and mass spectrometry data that is specific to the batch, not an average that is general.
2. Batch Traceability
Can the exact vial be linked to a particular manufacturing batch, together with the test results associated with that batch?
What you should look for is the batch number on the product or in the documentation that came with your order.
3. The mg content and pricing are transparent
Is the exact mg content clearly given and can the price per mg be easily calculated so that it can be compared with that of other suppliers?
What to check for: the mg content on the product page itself, not somewhere in a specification sheet or completely missing.
4. Storage and Handling Standards
Does the supplier explain the method of storing the product before it is dispatched and also how it is shipped in order to maintain its stability?
What to look for: References to cold-chain shipping, insulated packaging, and the correct storage instructions when the item arrives.
5. Manufacturer Standards
Does the supplier at least give a general indication of the standards their manufacturing partners are required to meet?
What to look for: Look for references to GMP practices or to equivalent quality standards, not for a complete absence of such information.
6. Clear Documentation on Request
Will the supplier give you more documents, like CoAs or batch reports, if you ask directly?
What to look for is a quick and particular response, not a general evasion.
7. Support and Accountability Based in the UK
Is there actually a support service which responds to enquiries, and a definite policy in place if there's a problem with an order?
What to look for: Support that can be contacted and has a record of answering specific technical questions.
8. Consistency in Their Catalogue
Are these standards applied throughout the entire range of the supplier's products or only to a few 'flagship' products which are used for building trust?
What to look for: All property listings should have the same amount of documentation, not just the best-selling ones.
